Description noelpoore 2001-08-16 15:57:42 UTC
When I run setup, when I press the "Next" button to start copying files, the button remains indented on the screen and setup hangs. The relevant processes at the time would seem to be:

root 17209 16209 1 10:45 pts/3 00:00:02 ./setup

root 17212 17209 0 10:45 pts/3 00:00:01 /tmp/sv003.tmp/setup.bin

root 17226 17212 0 10:45 pts/3 00:00:00 /tmp/sv003.tmp/setup.bin

root 17227 17226 0 10:45 pts/3 00:00:00 /tmp/sv003.tmp/setup.bin

root 17332 17264 0 10:48 pts/2 00:00:00 grep setup

I'm running Red Hat 7.1 with glibc 2.2.2 (according to OpenOffice setup).

I had the same problem trying to install StarOffice 5.2. Please contact me on noel@savaJe.com if you need more information.

I'm running the 2.4.3 kernel and have 512M RAM and approx 30G free hard disk. When I kill the setup.bin processes, the OpenOffice install directory has been created but is empty. I tried the installation 4 times with the same results.

Hello Noel,
I can't reproduce your problem, I have had no problems installing
and using SO5.2 and OOo633 on my machine (RH7.1; PIII 500, 256MB,
4GB discspace, Kernel 2.4.2.-2, glibc 2.2.3).
I think it is impropable that SO5.2 was released without being
installable on linux and meanwhile a lot of people using SO5.2 and RH 7.1.
I don't see an issue in SO/OOo, I suppose it is the configuration of
your computer causing problems.
Comment 3 Olaf Felka 2001-08-24 11:13:19 UTC
Is it reproducible in OOo638?
Comment 4 noelpoore 2001-08-27 23:57:27 UTC
I just tried build 638 and unfortunately I see the same behaviour :(

Hi,
there is a thread in openoffice.discuss:
OpenOffice for Linux Installation crash.
There are some good hints about problems with S3 chips on graphic devices. The linkfrom Micheal isn't working but leads into the right direction:
http://www.michaelminn.com/linux/toshiba2755.html#section13.1.1
I hope this could help.

No response for a month -> no problem?
Comment 7 Olaf Felka 2001-11-14 17:06:03 UTC
No answer for a month: I close this issue.
