Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14673
use http references as values in cell formulas
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:39:32 UTC
it would be useful to be able to access data over http and use it in cell references. example: you might have a servlet-based web application that does budgeting. an accountant might want to use some of those services in a spreadsheet. We might use a cell formula like this: =(http://intra.example.org/budgeting/GetLabor?quarter=2002q2) this would access the GetLabor servlet and return the labor cost for the second quarter of 2002, which the accountant could then use in the spreadsheet for his own purposes. From the organization's perspective, this has several benefits: 1) it allows reuse of server-based logic in desktop apps. 2) sometimes organizations have logic redundantly scattered throughout office documents, but a wholesale reimplementation of all the spreadsheet functionality as a web app can be a huge job. this feature would allow the developers at example.com to move the logic over to (say) servlets gradually, and use them immediately within the existing spreadsheets.
Hi Bettina, 1 4 u I think this would be a great improvement. Frank
