Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14665
bibliography as spreadsheet doesn't work
Last modified: 2004-04-26 11:29:16 UTC
1. Open the standard biblio.dbf and save it as biblio.sxc (spreadsheet). 2. Define your Bibliography Data Source to be biblio.sxc and apply. 3. Invoke Tools - Bibliography Datasource. 4. None of the column names will (and can) be assigned. This behavior persists if one removes the ",C,50" part of the headers.
The bibliography file biblio.dbf is in Dbase database format file. After importing it into a spreadsheet you need to save the file back as a Dbase file ( .dbf) for the biliographic software to use it properly. The bibliographic software can not work on a spreadsheet file. Note; you need to be carefull not to change the database description information ( the ",C,50" ) etc or the bibliographic software will not work properly.
But if the bibliographic software cannot work on spreadsheets, why can I select spreadsheet as bibliography data type (via Tools - Data Sources)?
Good point, there should be more checking by the bibliographic software of the bibliographic data file and the need to issue useful error messages. I am reassigning this to wordprocessing project as they handle this code. The following issues also relate to the bibliographic software not performing checks on the bibliographic datafile or not issuing error messages when it is not useable. 14197 11591 Checks and error messages needed are - "The bibliographic data file must be in dabase ( .dbf) format." "The bibliographic database field definitions have been altered"
