Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14616
The help on OOo Basic should mention included macros
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:00:01 UTC
There are a great many useful and instructive macro snippets that ship with OOo as standard, for instance in the "Tools" library. It would be a reasonably simple task to mention this, with a brif description of hwat each one does, in the basic help file. Libraries make all programming easier, but they're no use if people don't use them. At the moment, we are shipping useful little libraries, and not telling anyone that we're doing so, nor what they do. I know it's odd puttin ghit ins the l10n project, but that does seem to be the right place for help file problems.
This is a task for the Help. Frank have fun with it! :-)
Good idea. Lets aim for 2.0 for this task.
Berend, can you give me an overview about which macros are actually delivered to OOo (are there any SO specific?) and what they do? Unfortunately they all seem to be undocumented. A short high level description would suffice. thanks Frank
according to the announcement on releases (http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=releases&msgNo=7503) this issue will be re-targeted to OOo Later.
bc: I send the issue to ih who now has the control over the tools library.
IH: I think the original author of the source should provide some documentation here.
.
The "Gimmicks" are mentioned in Help at two places: 1. in the How to print the list of AutoTexts, and 2. in a note of the "Using Procedures and Functions" section of Basic help. Every user who wants to have a look at the supplied macros can have a look at them, read the code and learn how to write such code. It is nothing I want to document in the application Help, however. This is special information for the "Programmers Guide to BASIC" book, if it should be documented at all.
