Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14544
The formula box is not resized correctly when the equation view is updated
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:08:46 UTC
I insert a formula in an OOo Impress presentation; when the equation display is updated (either automatically or because I press F9), the box showing the equation is not resized correctly: its size (apart from some lines drawn externally) remains unchanged. Hence, when I have to type a long equation (eventually, with more than a single line), to have a fair view of what I'm doing, I'm almost forced to close and reopen the same equation a lot of times (when I close the equation, the equation is displayed correctly and its size is correctly updated). The drawing module is affected by the same problem, while the word processor and the spreadsheet are not. Marco Pratesi
This does not look good in 1.1. beta and a current internal one, too. Please have a look.

Hi, according to http://development.openoffice.org/releases/Target_Milestone.html retarget to OOo_Later Bye Marc
PING! Still present in the year 2008 in OOo 2.4.1 on Ubuntu Hardy.
I can reproduce this on Windows XP with OOO 310m19 build 9420 too. The annoying thing is that the formula box redraws when zooming the view and displays scaled down image of the whole formula, while the image outside the box remains unchanged. This makes the formula impossible to read until leaving and re-entering formula editing mode.
Please could the target milestone for this bug be reevaluated? I have checked 3.1.0 (OOo310m19) on Ubuntu Karmic and the problem still exists. To clarify, this problem only occurs in Presentation. I checked in Writer and there's no problem there. While editing an equation in Presentation, if you have made the equation longer and you then type ctrl-R, the equation becomes bigger but the sizing box stays the same (doesn't extend to contain the full equation text). On the other hand, in Writer, editing a formula to make it longer, and then pressing ctrl-R, results in the sizing box around the formula being correctly enlarged. On the basis of that, I suggest that this might be a fairly simple bug to fix, and should be fixed sooner than 'later'.
