Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14157
modifies StarOffice 5.x associations
Last modified: 2019-07-23 22:07:36 UTC
The installers for all OpenOffice/StarOffice 6x versions have one annoying feature. Despite the fact that different versions are supported on the same system, these installers will without warning or possible override associate all StarOffice formats with the newly installed version. This is annoying in particular with the 5.x versions (and especially with the OpenOffice version as it has different spell check and hyphenation engines that cause different page layout). * A beta version should not associate formats with itself that are currently associated with a release version * It should be possible to have StarOffice 5, 6 and OpenOffice on one platform; this would only require an appropriate name change for the executable (why would OpenOffice be called soffice.exe?), and optional association in the installer (as now proposed for the MS Office formats).
