Description Unknown 2003-04-29 02:54:09 UTC
Hi, folks,

Latin letters immediately followed by Japanese letters in a cell
or visa versa results in unwanted space between them.
This space also involves underline break as shown by example.
This space or break should not happen.

If you closely look into the screenshot,
you will notice the baselines stagger a little at the break
and even have different thicknesses.

This issue is reproduced with 644m11 on Linux and Windows2000.

I will attach an archive of SXC and a screenshot.

Hi,

I think this could not be fixed as it is a result from different font
sets. Just select the text in the cell and cahnge the font to let's
say Arial Unicode MS. As you can see, the staggered lines are now on
the same level. The break in the underline must be there, as I'm not
aware about a word containing both western and Asian characters.

Best regards

Frank

Hi, Frank,

I think your ground to justify the break in underline is not very
reasonable.
See this example.
A parenthesized Latin word enjoys unbroken underline.
However, a parenthesized Japanese word suffers broken underline.
This behavior is unequal to Japanese users.
I don't think my suggestion is 'INVALID.'

Sincerely,

Hi,

now I get the point and no, your sugestions are not invalid.

I've set this to invalid as this resolution seemed to fit best. So not
your suggestion but the resolution was meant.

Best regards

Frank

Hi Malte,

have a look at the second attachment, it shows the desired behaviour
in a better way than No. 1

It's not a bug, it's a feature.
You can turn off the spacing in format/paragraph/Asian Typography,
which is available when you enabled
tools/options/LanguageSettins/Languages.

We have an internal bug for the underline problem (#105218#), which
will hopefully be exported to IssueZilla soon.

Hi, folks,

Thanks for your reply.

I am simply not sure how to turn off the spacing with CALC.
I reviewed this issue with 1.1beta2.

In the "Format->Cells->Asian Typography" dialog,
the check box:
"Apply spacing between Asian, Latin and Complex text"
is grayed out.

May I expect OO.o will be fixed so that this option properly work with
CALC?

Thanks,

MT: You are right, it's disabled in Calc, I write a task for that.
Other apps are OK.

in OOo Writer the unwanted SPACE can be switched off in
format/paragraph/Asian Typography as said earlier before.
Problem in Calc is issue 15453.

Setting to "Closed".
