Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 13664
The user should not see a distinction between "save as" and "export"
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:01 UTC
when editing a jpeg using Draw, if I ask to save it, I am told this can't be done, and I must save in ".sxd" format. Yet, I can in fact save it as a jpeg using the "export" menu. I'm sure the distincion makes sense from an engineering PoV: presumably the "export" menus invoke external filters. But it makes no sense to the user, and should be invisible. I don't care how the program manages to save my work as a jpeg. I just want it to work without fuss. So there's no reason from the user's point of view, for a separate "export" menu. The choices it offers should all be availabe from the "Save" and "Save as" dialogues. We don't have a separate "Import" menu for opening alien file formats. If they can be opened at all, they show up in the open dialogue. I know that other graphics programs make this mistake (Corel certainly does). WE shouldn't follow their example.
Reassigned to Bettina.
A user asked me, "How do I export as .doc? I can only export as PDF." So, the distinction is confusing. >I'm sure the distincion makes sense from an engineering PoV: presumably the >"export" menus invoke external filters. But it makes no sense to the user At first, I thought "exported" files cannot be imported. That's true for Writer, but it isn't true for Draw.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
