Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1348
Failed installation with true type fonts
Last modified: 2003-12-06 14:52:34 UTC
I have RedHat 7.1 SMP. I noticed that after importing the Windows font into Linux and adding it to the xfs server (using chkfontpath utility), OpenOffice wont install. Running setup will cause two windows to open and stop there. If I marked the true type font (putting # in the /etc/X11/fs/config file) and restart the xfs service, installing is possible. Also, after installation then I put back the true type fonts (unmarking the line), the OpenOffice will run but all the menu text is missing. Thanks,
Hi Philipp, any ideas about this?
Contacted submitter with the following. Never got response, so i suppose the problem is solved. i suspect the problem is in the xfs server. The font list that is tried for the UI font looks like this (ordered to descending priority): Andale Sans UI Tahoma Arial Unicode MS Interface User Geneva WarpSans Dialog Swiss Lucida Helvetica Charcoal Chicago Arial MS Sans Serif Helv Times Times New Roman Interface System If for instance in xfontsel you can select but not display Tahoma, then the xfs is the culprit. Additionally you can try to let OpenOffice.org handle the TrueType fonts directly. Simply edit the soffice script <office installation path>/program/soffice and append the directory containing your TrueType fonts to the SAL_FONTPATH_PRIVATE separated by ';'.
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved <wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
