Similar problem here. I can't print useful notes in OOImpress 2.3. They always print in landscape mode, which cuts off the bottom half, no matter how many times and in how many different ways I attempt to configure the printer settings for portrait mode. (That is also the printer's default setting. OOI 2.3 is ignoring those settings, as well, choosing instead to /always/ print in landscape mode.)
WORKAROUND FOUND: Export to PDF, selecting "Export Notes". The first half of the output file contains the presentation in landscape format. The second half contains proper notes pages, in portrait format. Print the second half for usable speaker notes.
