Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 13404
After system hangs OO do not restart
Last modified: 2003-09-17 12:36:25 UTC
It is happened that suddenly AC power has gone and, at the next PC restart OO didn't start anymore saying: Openoffice cannot be started due to an error in accessing the oo.org configuration data ... the following internal error occurred: GETSTORAGE,NAME: "NO CONTENT! that's all Fabius
CD: This message shows up when the Office detects corrupt configuration data. For a FAT Office installation just look into the folders: <OpenOffice installation>\user\registry\data\org\openoffice <OpenOffice installation>\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office. If you made a network/workstation installation you have to look from <User-Installation>\user\... folder. I think that at least one of the *.xcu files was corrupted due to the power loss. If you can live to lose your settings you can remove the xcu files from both directories. Otherwise you have to open the files and investigate what went wrong. I hope that will find a better solution for the next major version.
looks like you got it - the .../office/common.xcu is the last file touched by the app and as a matter of fact, it have nothing but 5 blank lines inside - deleting that file everithing still work fine again but alas, now i have lost all my custom messing up! i think that this absolutely should not happen - my suggestion is to do a backup of this file at every OO startup and its cleanup at every shutdown and, if the backup is there at the next startup, oo knows that something wrong has happened and so it can restore the mess with it. Fabius
I've had this happen several times on a W2K computer - but the computer hasn't been crashing or shutting down abnormally. The common.xcu files seem to become corrupted some other way, preventing OOo from starting. It would be nice if OpenOffice could recover more gracefully from this corruption.
Seems to be not reproducible in a more recent build of OO like the 1.1 Beta2 anymore. Please check, thanks !
I just had the same problem, without any crash! Using OO.o 1.1 RC. and Windows 2000 SP3. Setup with Repair did not help. After deleting common.xcu OO.o starts again. Martin
When using a more recent build, like the RC4, the repair-function solves the problem with corrupted common.xcu files.
ok - with Thorsten we could say that this issue has extinguished.
