Description Unknown 2003-04-02 10:07:40 UTC
Configuration OO01.1beta / SuSE Linux 8.1 / FujitsuSiemens Lifebook Laptop,
Intel Platform

How to provoke:
1) New Text Document
2) Insert Table (5 cols x 6 rows)
3) Mark a cell and select Character->Position->Rotation 90 deg by using right
mouse button
4) Enter text

Behaviour:
Cursor rotates by 90 deg, but no text is entered into cell. Cell does however
grow in height with each character entered.

Remark:
Same behaviour observed on rotating text in text-area and Default style (outside
of table)

Hi,
This issue may be related to issue #10735, #11570, and part of #11579
and #11951. I observe this issue with specific fonts (such as Times.
Lucida Sans can be rotated without any problem).

Do you observe your issue with specific fonts or regardless of fonts?
Do you observe your issue with any degrees but 0?
What version of X server do you use?
Comment 2 Unknown 2003-04-03 08:50:10 UTC
Since yesterday I have updated to SuSE 8.2. Behaviour is the same.
XServer is Xfree86 v4.3

The behaviour is font-dependent: Of the ones I have tried, charter,
courier and nimbus are ok. Times, lucida, helvetica, palatino are buggy.

Behaviour is the same for rotate 90 and rotate 270

Hi,

I wish this issue be picked up by developers.

Forthcoming OOo can and should be fixed with this issue, I believe.

On one of my Linux machines, OOo1.0.2 can display rotated text of
certain fonts (Times, Helvetica, etc), which OOo644m7 can't display.
This fact clearly shows OOo can be made to solve this issue.

Dear gardinercf,

Could you correct the following fields?

component: gsl (I believe visual library is responsible)
priority : P3 (this issue doesn't have workaround)

I can't change these fields because I am not owner or reporter.
Comment 5 Unknown 2003-04-07 07:26:27 UTC
Component / Priority changed after request from issues@www.openoffice.org
Comment 6 christof.pintaske 2003-04-07 10:55:04 UTC
cp: seems to be a problem with rotating X fonts (whereas fonts that
are found locally are rendered/rotated with FreeType still work)
Comment 7 Unknown 2003-04-26 13:16:05 UTC
Hi,

With 644m11 released on Apr 24, rotated text of Times font now
appears, but at a wrong position.
Please see the attached screenshot.

I appreciate your effort to handle this issue.
