Description harolda3 2018-11-21 16:05:08 UTC
Installed AOo 4.1.6:
I can open or save old and new Writer files as .doc; but Calc cannot open or SaveAs old or new .xls files, even with a new profile folder, per recommendation of AOo Forum volunteer John_Ha. Had no problem with previous versions of AOo. Need .xls for others with PCs and Macs having only Excel.
John_Ha can open my old .xls files and new .xls files created on another computer with Excel on his PC, but I cannot.

OPEN ERROR: Read-Error. Internal import error.
SAVE AS ERROR: Error saving the document Untitled: Read-Error. Internal import error. - [even though I gave it a different title]

-OpenOffice 4.1.6, MacBook Air (early 2013), OS Yosemite 10.10.5

Rephrase sentence:
John_Ha on his PC with 4.1.6 can open my old .xls files and my new .xls files created on another computer with Excel, but I cannot do neither.

No problem for me opening .xls or .xlx files.
No problem saving as .xls

I opened the sample files he posted on the forum with no problem.

AOO 4.1.6 13" MacBook Pro (late 2013) macOS 10.14.1 Mojave

Could it be a OSX 10.10.5 Yosemite specific problem?
Comment 3 Peter 2018-11-22 09:15:52 UTC
This is strange. If it were a general Yosemite issue, I'd expect that the Issue appears on 4.1.5, too.

Can you link the Forum thread please. This makes it easier for us to get on the same page.

I assume that the behavior could not be reproduced on Forums either, right?
Is this the only occurrence? Or do you have the issues to with ODS files, too?

AOo version is OpenOffice 4.1.6 AOO416m1(Build:9790). I wonder if AOo version is not proper for my old laptop.
MacBook Air (11-inch, late 2010), OS Yosemite 10.10.5

I check with the team which version we use for building AOO 4.1.x Version.

According to Jim's responses to your inquiry on dev@ at https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/cb2ee901c3ad709acf82ae1b826cbf92d0647086ff7348e4fd2e8f11@%3Cdev.openoffice.apache.org%3E. 4.1.5 & 4.1.6 were built with the same parameters. Since the op states that he had no problem with 4.1.5 this would not appear to be cause of the issue.
Comment 8 Keith N. McKenna 2018-12-03 19:15:18 UTC
Setting keyword needhelp. Need a volunteer with a mac running Yosemite to try to confirm this.

Reading through the complete thread on the forum referenced in comment 4 the op was able to restore AOO 4.1.5 from the time machine. This points further to this being a Yosemite only issue.

Seems to be solved on the forum
OP is not come back to give his feedback here
