Description vliscony 2003-03-28 16:39:05 UTC
Stylist fails completely in 1.1, even clicking on a new paragraph style has
little or no effect on e.g. changing the font, or one attribute may change but
not others.

The level of dysfunction is such that I will have to cease beta testing until a
newer release offers at least some hope of getting anything done.

I just work on your issue 12765 (which has nothing to do with this
one) and I tend to think that something goes wrong on your system/OOo
installation.
So the same question: which OS do you use?
Please add a sample doc with style which shouldn't work explaining
which attributes don't work.
I can't reproduce your problem

text file with stylesheet problem

hi, thanks for your note, I just attached a doc with the problem.

let's say a para has the "default"style. When I click on the "body
text" style, sometimes the font does not change. It is irregular, for
sometimes it will work, but about 50% of the time it will show "text
body" as the new style, yet the font will be stuck on "courier new"
instead of switching to "Book Antiqua" which is the font for "body
text"

Looking at your doc, my guess is that you try to apply styles (soft
formatting) on paragraphs which are hard formatted. Hard formatting
always wins vs. styles.
You may have no problem selecting the whole text and resetting all
formattings to Default (menu "Format - Default").
From now on your style will always work when applied.

I'm doing some experimenting on this, and I'm managing to crash the
program by selecting ALL and doing format default.

Sometimes it works a few times, but sometimes it hangs right away.

So there may actually be going something on here, but it may have to
do more with doc converstion than with formatting, though formatting
is where it shows up.

I am starting to figure this out. It has to do with the fact that
these were imported files, and for some reason they have a lot of
sections.

After removing all the sections all the problems essentially went
away, but working on it with the sections still in I got really
bizarre effects, and the program hangs sometimes trying to apply a
style change.

All of which is not good. I believe the MMR1_Introduction doc alone
had 24 sections, while it is straight text.

and, while I did find a work around, the fact that I could repeatedly
make the file hang, by just applying a style change, feels like
something is not as robust as it should be.

The problem you describe has nothing to do with the original issue.
Please file another issue if you can reproduce it for sure. Describe
then exactly what you do to cause the hang up/crash.
