Printer Features Not Discovered By Program

There remains huge issues with components, such as Writer, not being able to see the printer driver and its parameters. This has caused many issues, such as 111718, 29924, 31619, 42185, 79865 and 109427, to name but just a few. This problems affects the functionality of the applications. They do not know what the printer can do, and so they cannot display in WYSIWYG reality. Worse yet, they will never be able to print as the user desires. Page layout is continually wrong, and even envelopes fail to print correctly. Solving this programming flaw will cut out a very large number of bug reports and support requests. The programmers' focus upon this issue needs to become a top priority in this point in time. While I am not a programmer, I can easily explain what steps need to be accomplished in the code to solve this particular issue. Thank you.
Could you be more precise? Which distro, printer model and used driver...
It does not matter. The program does not incorporate the printer information as it should in any environment. An example is under Format>Page>Paper Format>Paper Tray, it shows that the selection is "(From printer settings)", which proves part of my point. If printer settings are used for anything, then why not use them for everything, such as for "Format"? One can easily find paper sizes in various printers which are not in the Format list. For instance, my printer is full-bleed capable, but Writer is not. That makes no sense.

Printing process is a part of operating system and not AOO. For Linux distro, it is CUPS. You can use OpenOffice Printer Management (in system menu) to configure printers and fonts.

"Printing process is a part of operating system and not AOO." That's not true. If it was, AOO would see what is available in the usable printers. As it is, it does not see the same things. There seems to be a huge problem here. The issue is that the software does not understand what the printer can do. Therefore the software, which is designed to output to the printer, cannot output correctly. That statement is a simple fact. No one can get around that nor can anyone say it is not true and be correct themselves. At the most basic point, I couldn't care less whether printing is part of the OS or not. It simply makes no difference. I am beginning to believe that the programmers do not see this as a bug, and that leads me to wonder why anyone would not want to make their word processor be able to use all the features of their output environment. That is mind-boggling. How can AOO not print full-bleed?
I think this feature request is about integrating the printer preview into the standard Document view. I think this has a lot to do with beeing able to design and layout the result you are producing in your document. I don't like the drama or the overdrawn importance of this feature. It clouds the vision and benefit that this feature might have. Please try to remove the emotional wording in your posts. You are the lead designer of this feature and in order to have success you must convince others to follow your view. And you should go beyond what you wrote. How should the Application know what you want to Do? I think we need to describe better how this could look like. Especially it is only know to the application that you want to print the document when you press the print button. So how do you envision that the Program knows what your target is?

Thanks oooforum (fr), After translating Bureautique to English, I found that item under the Office menu and not the system menu. (I had missed it before.) In any case, all it shows is the printer's options, including the listing of a "Letter Borderless 8.5x11in" item. However, that does not make the format available in the program. Evidently the program does see it, but can't use it. I hope this helps you all see that the program does actually see the printer and its features but fails to use them.
