Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 12732
Memory access error attempting to modify installation
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:53:51 UTC
I have not been able to reproduce this error, it looks like it fixes itself after the first occurance. While attempting to add a component after installation, I received a "could not read memory" error. Application popup: DDE Server Window: soffice.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x10001cca" referenced memory at "0x00abe9b6". The memory could not be "read". It appears to me that it's not a bug in the setup program, but the setup program triggered the event when it killed the quickstart process. Subsequent attempts to reproduce the bug failed to yield the same results. Below is the steps leading to the bug. Sorry for the long windedness. My first bug submission! I have a Dell GX1 with Windows 2000 Pro/SP3 that had OpenOffice 1.0.1 installed. I had only used OpenOffice (Writer & Calc) a few times to view documents in the past month or so. This morning, I downloaded 1.1Beta to test it out. I ran the uninstaller for 1.0.1 and had it delete all files, then installed 1.1Beta using all of the defaults. I opened Writer and type a sentence to test exporting to PDF and Docbook, but could not find a Docbook export/save as filter. Searched through help, but not there either, so I thought it might have been an optional component. I closed Write and noticed the OpenOffice QuickStart icon stayed in the system tray. I started the installer from Windows' Add/Remove Program applet. The Modify/Remove dialog appeared and then a Windows error message appeared. From the Event Viewer's System log: Application popup: DDE Server Window: soffice.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x10001cca" referenced memory at "0x00abe9b6". The memory could not be "read". The QuickStarter icon had disappeared and when I closed the error message, the installer appeared to continue working correctly. I attempted to reproduce the error by restarting Openoffice, typing the line again, exporting to PDF, closing Write, opening the PDF in Acrobat (not reader), closing Acrobat, and restarting the installer using Add/Remove Apps. The installer closed the QuickStarter correctly. I attempted this 3 times before finally deciding to submit a low priority annoyance.
I have the same problem like you: I can't reproduce this problem. So it's not possible for us to fix it.
Can't reproduce.
