Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 127256
Formatting an idex for sinlge characters in cells fails
Last modified: 2016-12-19 22:47:21 UTC
Created attachment 85895 [details] Example of misformatted characters Hello Guys, my fist bug report - so I hope I can make myself understandable. I triet to type a chemical formula, including several numbers in index, like C5H12O5. But It's a mess partially formatting is lost or not in setted letters occurring as. I would be happy if sometime it will be fixed. Thanks and merry x-mas to all of you! Mirko from Germany
From your description I don't know how to enter this into a spreadsheet in Calc. And the picture shows just the result and no problem. Please can you attached a sample spreadsheet document to this issue? This would be helpful. Thanks.
Hello Marcus, thanks for your quick response. I can't illustrate it with a table sheet because it is a process which doesn't works. But you can try it easily by yourselve. take this string: Na2CO3H4B2I90 and set all numbers to index. During this you may will see that it will be impossible. Thanks, Mirko

OK. I think with index you mean subscript. At least this is what I understand from the sample picture. > During this you may will see that it will be impossible. I had no problems to set all numbers to subscript in the cell. However, it's really tricky to get only the numbers selected, right mouse click and to choose "Style - Subscript". But a much better solution would be to use the Math module of OpenOffice when it comes to formulas. So, maybe you should give it a try and go to "Insert - Object - Formula". Just enter the following and you should see the created formula in the object: Na_2 CO_3 H_4 B_2 I_90 Please note that every formatting you need to change inside the object (Math) and not in the cell (Calc). That means double click the object and go to "Format - Fonts" resp. "Format - Font Size".
Sorry, it wasn't very good descripted. Yes it's a bit tricky to do that and thanks for your hint! =)
Wow! It works excellent! Thanks a lot!!!
Great to see that it's working now. However, I don't see a real problem here as it's more a HowTo question. Therefore I'm closing this issue respectively.
I agree with you.
