Description tintin60 2016-04-30 09:46:28 UTC
Hi,

Not found here the same request.

Navigate to user profile folder through hidden folders is a difficult procedure for lot of people.

Would it be possible to access the user profile folder directly as possible with Thunderbird or Firefox via assistance informations ?

I think it would be a real improvement.

Regards

That's a great idea, along with other means/caveats to provide casual users with the information needed to work reliably (e.g., reveal extensions on all files, manage associations, reset the profile, find the correct Java JRE, locating documents recently-used and not actually lost, ...). [This is not sarcasm, I think all of these things are overdue.)

There is an issue (that I will go looking for) to provide a means to automatically reset the user profile. Visiting the profile or editing it does not make much sense in the case of AOO.

Would it be sufficient to provide the user with means to backup and reset the user profile?

As a stop-gap, we could provide a separate utility for monkeying with the profile. That might be easier (and an upgrade of AOO could rely on it programmatically at some point).

Please share your thoughts.

The problem is that this function can't be inner to AOO. Because the user profile is locked when the program is launched.

Maybe OP talks about similar function like running in safe-mode:

Good point!

That's another reason for having a standalone utility (installed with AOO) that can be run separately. It has value beyond testing and proof-of-concept.

The utility also needs to be able to shut down a stuck quick starter.

Did you read this report?
Target is still set to "none".

For me, such development is not a priority.
Reseting profile needed is at 90% comes from spell checker problem
So wait next build with this enhancement: see issue 126762
