When modifying an existing document I marked a text at the end of the first line, consiting of 15+ chars. Then I pasted a much shorter text, 8+ chars, to that marked position. Afterwards a part of the just rewritten text still is shown on the screen without marking and but when I press del, these phantom chars vanish at once. This is misleading.

No! This is not a text but an picture.
Understood that is not easy to reproduce without attach a real document?

Double click on Replace, mark "15. September 2014" and press Shift+Insert. Now a part of the former text is visible. If you press Del now, several unmarked chars disappear.

OK your title don't explain what you describe.

To reproduce:
1) Open the attached document
2) On 8th line, select "Replace" word
3) Copy with Ctrl-C
4) On 1st line, select "15. September 2014" 
5) Paste with Ctrl-V 

Observed behavior: selected text is replaced but artifact of the original text still remains after the paste occurs.  
Minimize the window and restore it or refresh with Ctrl-Shift-R: artifact will be gone.

Tested with last release 4.1.1 and Win7 Pro x64
