Description mroe 2014-03-23 20:41:30 UTC
I searched today for (all) issues) that are related to MacOS. But now I see that not all bugs were found.

The reason: I haven't noticed that at the box "Resolution" the value "---" is preselected. Unselect this entry will give the right result.

This behaviour may be also the reason for old issues like 105796.

The solution is like easy: no preselection of values if the advanced search is called..

That might be default for new accounts, I will check that later.

Currently I don't think that it's a bug to check only for bugs what have not been fixed yet, for unexperienced users that might be the best solution, because it prevents them from being overwhelmed with bugs in their queries.

And that "---" selection is rather visible, so not a real problem

Seems appropriate as default, benefit is bigger than possible problems. Without some votes we should not do changes here.

But it's really tricky to get that "Resolution = ---" from the "(Default search)"
in user preferences, with some quick tests I did not find a solution.

What does an account in the surrounding area of this issue?
Open the advanced search no matter if you logged in or not.

> And that "---" selection is rather visible, so not a real problem

Because of that nothing is selected in other boxes "---" intends to be equivalent to "nothing". But this is a defined state. And there are combinations like "CLOSED" and "---" that will always return empty results.

This is only right for bugs that are not solved. But for solved bugs it could be the reason for needless duplicates.

When logged in there is a checkbox "and remember these as my default search options" under the search button at the bottom.

So workaround for your issue:
* new advanded search
* deselect "---" (ctrl + click)
* check "and remember these as my default search options"
* search

Now I tried:
Deselect the entry, check "and remember ...", [Search]
Getting all(?) existing bugs and the message:
"OK, you now have a new default search. You may also bookmark the result of any individual search."

But any time I open the advanced search "---" is selected. So it doesn't work as expected.

See comment 0: "Unselect this entry will give the right result." (deselect maybe better English? will give → gives)

I also failed to remove the "Resolution: ---" as final search criterion, see "Issue 124494 - (Default search): Impossible to remove selected 'Resolution: ---' as final search criterion"
