Description simonbr 2003-03-17 22:13:57 UTC
Hi, it was reported that the installation does not add items in the start menu
for Gnome, like it's done under MS-Windows. In KDE3, I saw that items were
available in the menu editor, but you have to add them to the start menu
yourself.

The user installation should add the items in the start menu for the desktop
environments for which configuration files are found in the user's home
directory (in any case for the most common desktop environments such as KDE and
Gnome).

Hi Simon,

regarding the KDE issue: which distribution are you using ? For e.g.
SuSE there is no way to make the menus appear automically without
having the user to switch from "SuSE menus" to "KDE default menus" in
the Kontrol-Center.

Hi Oliver,
SuSE 8.1
I found the menu items in the menu editor, and copied them into the
tree below the SuSE start menu.

Hi Simon,

SuSE is doing special things here, which we are not going to support
in our installer: for us it is too much work to do this for every
linux vendor and probably every new release, so we leave the job of
adapting OpenOffice.org to their menu system up to the linux vendors.

To see that OpenOffice.org installs its files correctly, you could
change Control-Center -> Look & Feel -> Menu Settings -> Main Menu
from "SuSE menu" to "Standard KDE menu" and the OpenOffice.org menu
will appear without further modifications.

Hi Oliver,
Fair enough. With OpenOffice.org installing menu items in "standard"
Gnome and KDE environments, that is all one reasonably could ask for.
