Description lduperval 2003-03-17 04:02:06 UTC
Whenever there is an irrecoverable error, I am greatly frustrated because I have
no idea what happened. I think it would be a good thing for users and developers
if there was an error log available to all. It would be easier to post stack
traces and whatnot when a crash occurs.

I would also suggest that something is written the log whenever an error dialog
pops up. For example, I"m trying to send an email message and I get the error
"unable to make bcakup copy". I have no idea why. But in the error log, it could
dump a stack trace saying something like "disk full" or whatever the problem may be.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

I think this feature in absolutely needed in such a complex software and must be included in the next release. It's surprising that nothing has been done since 2003 !

Recently, I had repeated crashes when editing equations with AOO410 and AOO411 on Windows Vista 32 bits, with no other debugging information than the message "AOO has stopped because of unexpected error" (see https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124930 ).

This problem seems to be linked to my Vista installation as it was not reproducible by other Vista users. As I was unable to find what in my Vista is making AOO410/411 crash because I had no detailed error report, the only solutions for me were to stay on AOO401 or switching to Libre Office.

I think it would be a good thing for developers to know what was making AOO410/411 crash in my Vista installation, because AOO401 and the last stable release of Libre Office 426 are working fine, so the AOO41X branch should have introduced some new system requirements or incompatibilities. It is very frustrating to have no idea on what is wrong.
