Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 12407
pdf export and show field
Last modified: 2008-05-17 23:38:17 UTC
When printing a document that has "Show Field" enabled (view->fields), writer asks if you if you want to print the field names. That's good. When exporting as a pdf, however, it just prints it out with field names. It should probably ask you, as it does with print jobs.

Created attachment 9503 [details] OO file with a date field. When printed, the field is filled with the date.
Created attachment 9504 [details] Here the file was exported and the date was not inserted into the field
problem persists in 1.1rc4. I'm tempted to mark it as a defect because the user does not expect the exported version to contain the name of the field instead of its value.
Definitely a defect, but went away with 1.1.1a I have confirmed the problem with the attachments under OpenOffice 1.1 for Windows and 1.1 Linux/Intel. But the problem does not exist in OpenOffice 1.1.1a / Windows.... I stumbled on this bug (and this bug report!) because I had the same problem whereas I was creating a document where I used fields such as "DocInformation:Title", "Page Numbers" and "Statistics" and they were all being exported as the field string name instead of it's value - making both the fields and the PDF export useless. There must had been some kind of bug where fields are not evaluated before being passed to the PDF Export function. I've changed a few fields (status, subcomponent, version, issue type) in this bug report since it was getting stale...
