Description fanyuzhen 2013-09-25 10:03:16 UTC
In Redhat6.4 64bit, after run rpm -ivh openoffice4.0-redhat-menus-4.0-9714.noarch.rpm, it displays following error message:

file /usr/bin/soffice from install of openoffice4.0-redhat-menus-4.0-9714.noarch confilicts with file from package libreoffice-core-1:3.4.5.2-16.1.el6_3.x86_64

So, we have to launch AOO4.0.0 from /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice manually. It has no problem on Redhat6.4 32bit, it does annoy users in Redhat 64bit, I suggest to resolve it in 4.0.1

IMO this is a WONTFIX: this project owns /usr/bin/soffice
If RedHat's libreoffice-core package has hijacked it, then it is a problem that may need to be solved by legal means, not by this project renaming the conflictive files. Using the alternatives packages might be another solution, but not every distro supports alterantives.

IMO this isn¡t a release blocker, but you are free to request that status.

I agree this Ariel that this is not a release blocker.

It is an already known problem - as far as I have experienced - that the one or the other package from LibreOffice is conflicting with OpenOffice packages.

fanyuzhen: Did you had LibreOffice installed on your Redhat6.4 32bit system?
Comment 4 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann 2013-09-25 11:17:41 UTC
fanyuzhen: Did you follow the installation preliminaries given at http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Installation/How_do_I_install_OpenOffice.org_on_Linux%3F
Comment 5 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann 2013-09-25 11:22:22 UTC
I assume that the workaround for this problem is to uninstall LibreOffice before installing OpenOffice.

This might be one possible workaround - there might be others

By the way, it sounds odd that the problem only affects 64-bit. It is more likely that the 32-bit system used for testing didn't have LibreOffice installed (or it had the original LibreOffice, which is not conflicting, instead of the conflicting Red Hat variant).
