Description math.random 2013-05-29 18:39:42 UTC
On my Win7 64-Bit System AOO 3.4.x will detect but not be able to work with Java 1.7

On intalling AOO and Java 1.7 I couldn't find any info on this issue. The only and rather vague hint that I might encounter a problem was
http://www.openoffice.org/download/common/java.html

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119525
As of this info, Java 1.7 needs VS C++ 2010. It did the job for me.

This Bug is marked as fixed and with my little knowledge it appears to me that the issue to be adressed is on Oracle's Side. Though the information on how to actually fix it would have saved me 1hr+ of Reinstallations and going through the usual suggestions.
Unless I overlooked it and the info is available other than in the bugtracker or on a private homepage, and as this seems to be a general problem to me with Java 1.7 for everyone not having VS C++ 2010 installed, the next guy might be happy to be pointed at it.

The 'Download Instructions for Windows Online' linked on the bottom don't seem to contain the installation of VC C++ 2010 which surprisingly isn't listed in the requirements either.

Thx

The information is available directly from the download page: the "Download Apache OpenOffice ..." in green has a link to the Release Notes:

http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues

Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 support Java 7, which is the recommended configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings about the Java version being defective. In that case, download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.
