Description robert.kinsella 2003-03-10 17:31:09 UTC
OpenOffice.org 1.1Beta

If this is not a bug, please close as invalid!.

In all previous OO.org builds --> when format, autoformat, apply and edit
changes and accept all is selected on the attached document. It has been
formatted so that it is split into two paragraphs. The second paragraph starting
at the line "The brave men, living and dead " etc.

In this current build (1.1beta) selecting to autoformat the document appears to
have no effect on it, maybe this is an intentional change ??, if so please close
as not a bug.

AutoFormat only applies on paragraphs with the style "default".
If you select the whole text, change to paragraph style "default",
then AutoFormat will behave as expected.

So There is nothing new or buggy with AutoFormat. But...

OO.org 1.1 Beta loads ASCII text files so that they get the paragraph
format "Preformatted Text" now. The reason for this change (by CMC)
was to keep the "ASCII look" at the first glance by using a
non-proportional font after import WITHOUT this font becoming
"Default" style font: Due to style hierarchy, all child styles would
get this font, too.

SBA->FL: As discussed, I see at least two optins to correct the
current (non-intuitive) bahavior...
1. Import text files to "Default" Paragraph style again and if a
nonproportional font is chosen, it gets a soft format (NOT becoming
the "Default" style's set font)
2. Make the AutoFormat affect "Preformatted Text" paragraphs too.
(Problem: This would enable AutoFormat to affect document areas like
code samples within the normal text that weren't affected before)
IMHO, this is tolerable because using AutoFormat to toy with "already
formatted" documents doesn't look like an average users daily business...

FL: This one themes to be a little more complex. We could not simply
change the current limitation from only tuching default formatted
paragraphs, because already autoformated paragraphs could be affected
in a not planed way, by running the autoformat twice. But not to run
Autoformat on a seelction, when the user explicit chooses Autoformat
isn't good too. I propose a dialog, but I think it is not easy to
explain the user what his choices are. --> retargeted OOo 2.0

Comment 6 stefan.baltzer 2003-10-22 13:52:05 UTC
SBA: According to the OpenOffice.org roadmap
(see http://tools.openoffice.org/releases) this issue was retargeted to
"OOo Later".
SBA->FL: As discussed: This is not a bug (read "It was designed this
way"). Nevertheless this is not really an intuitive and useful feature
for the average user at times. Therefore I change the issue type to
"Enhancement" as all changes of the current behavior require a
specification.
