Description John Worley 2013-03-11 23:09:01 UTC
I have a small (58KB) file that when opened causes the OpenOffice UI to freeze. This occurs on Mac, PC, and Linux. I have been updating the file for a couple of years and there was never an issue until now. Because of the nature of the file, I cannot post it generally, but am willing to supply it directly to a developer.

Correction - the UI doesn't hang indefinitely, only for a few hours, at least when loading the file. Saving seems to hang even longer, but I haven't had the patience to let it run to completion.

Please attach at least a portion of the file.

The file can not be shared by the originator - bug can not be investigated.

In trying to prepare a version of the file that I could share, I discovered an HTML object, a graphics element from the URL. Trying to take any action with the object, even selecting it to delete, causes all of OpenOffice to hang on Mac, Linux, and Windows for 30-40 minutes. Once the elements were deleted, the original problem vanishes.

I believe the reason this "just" started happening is that the URL stopped being valid, and that something in the processing of the object either keeps retrying ad nauseum or doesn't properly timeout. However, it is interesting to note that the same object does NOT exhibit the same behavior when part of a Writer, except when pasting it in.
