Description Stig O'Tracy 2012-12-13 21:51:59 UTC
I was printing a sheet of labels, using mail merge. Before printing, I chose "File->Printer Settings..." and chose my Paper Source as the Rear Tray. Then, I chose "File->Print..." and did my printing. The wrong paper source was used. When I re-printed, I chose "File->Print...", and then clicked on the printer Properties button. Here, the paper source was still set on "Automatic". When I changed it there to Rear Tray, it worked correctly. So, the bug is: changing a value in Printer Settings had no effect.

Did you select the option "Paper tray from printer settings"?:

menu "File" -> "Printer Settings..." - dialog "Printer Setup" - the button at the left bottom corner "Options..." - dialog "Printer Options" - under "Other" you'll see the check box "Paper tray from printer settings".

I was not aware of that checkbox. I see that now. So I guess maybe it's not a bug, but it seems odd and user-unfriendly to have a separate checkbox for that.

You are right, it's not easy to find ;)
Did it work once checked?

If it works, then it's not a bug, but a request for enhancement.

I'm changing this to an enhancement request per the discussion below.
The user should be able to see in one place whether a change he makes will have an effect or not.

As far as I know, the settings you can select in

menu "File" -> "Printer Settings..." - dialog "Printer Setup" - the button at the left bottom corner "Options..." - dialog "Printer Options"

are stored inside the document, and will be applied to the document every time you print it.

This very same option can be found in the "Options" dialog from a Writer document:

menu "Tools" - "Options...". On the left tree select "OpenOffice.org Writer" - "Print". In the right you'll find under "Other" the check box "Paper tray from printer settings".

This options are applied globally to all Writer documents. AFAIK options stored in the document have precedence over global options.
