Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 120260
suggest to locate the installation files in temp folder and then remove it after installation finishes
Last modified: 2012-07-13 10:36:37 UTC
On windows, one step of install openoffice is unpacking the .exe to a folder, the default path is desktop. They are not removed after installation finishes, while they are unneeded for running or uninstalling openoffice. Suggest to unpack to the temp folder and then remove them automatically.
I object. The files are needed, when the user wants to modify or repair the installation. Therefore the user needs the files. An improvement would be, to tell the user that he needs the files later on for modify and repair.
The files are unpacked from the .exe file. In most cases, when I install a software, I just click Next,Next...even not notice that there is a unpacked folder located on my desktop. When I want to modify or repair it, I will find the original .exe and then double-click it again. The first time when I see the unpakced installation folder, I don't know what it is and when I placed it there...
Desktop as default is indeed not good, but temp folder is neither. But this should not be discussed here, but on mailing list, especially with UX.
