Created attachment 85287 [details]
One sheet without comments, another with comments

In this attachment, sheet "NoComment" contains a row of 10 cells with numbers.
Copy (Ctrl-C) the range A1:J1
Select range A2:A2000 (type it in the Name Box above header A)
Paste (Ctrl-V)
In a blink of an eye you obtain 20 000 filled cells.

Reload the document.
Use now sheet "WithComments". It contains a row of 10 cells with numbers and comments.
Copy (Ctrl-C) the range A1:J1
Select range A2:A2000
Paste (Ctrl-V)
Calc is working for 90 seconds to do this copy, without responding.

If not convinced, repeat the test for A2:A50000 or bigger.

Tested on a Windows 7 PC, with processor i5-4570 with 4 cores at 3.2GHz, 8 GB RAM. CPU usage 25% during the copy.

hi @ all,

this bug is 8.5 years old now,

it is! very easy to reproduce,

(one might consider it questionable to add 1.000.000 cells at all, but the problem occurs with fewer cells too),

i retested today on a quite fast machine,

pasting 500k cells with content '1' is finished as you finish typing - nearly -,

pasting 500k cells with content '1' and comment '1' takes ... i'd kill the task after a coffe, having been to the toilet and a second coffee ...

pasting 2,5k cells with content '1' and comment '1' takes about 2 minutes, but comes to an end,

imho it's another manifestation that something is! broken in the representation or handling of comments (notes), these problems are reported since first version of apache and libreoffice, thus likely inherited from OO 3.x,

see also #109276 and #102716 and plenty duplicates,

so could please somebody with enough 'karma' look at it, check it and set to 'new' or 'confirmed'? i'd be very pleased.

tia.
