see summary above
slide names are visible in OOo 3.2 underneath the slide frames
Comment 1 wolframgarten 2010-11-22 09:48:29 UTC
Slide names are not shown anymore due to the changes of the Renaissance project.
Comment 2 wolframgarten 2010-11-22 09:48:54 UTC

So I consider it a bad change.

Usually the slide names are used to make it easy to sort slides or find one in
slide pane or slide sorter. Now this is only possible, if you use a really big
screen on wich you can read the slide-content even in the slide pane and slide
sorter. This is not standard equipment e.g. of notebooks.

The new look is really pleasant and useful, but quick and easy work is only
possible if slide names are also shown.

you might like it or not - it behaves the way it is wanted to. So this cannot be
a defect but an enhancement. Reassigned. By the way: Powerpoint does not show
slidenames at all. Slides cannot be named there.
Comment 5 jmpoo 2010-11-23 13:18:44 UTC
How could it be an enhancement, when it is still there in former Ooo-Versions.
It is a defect and bad regression, cause an existing and well working funktion
is cut.

It is really scary that you - as an OOo developer - argue that this very helpful
funktion is removed cause Powerpoint has no such option.

Please tell me one comprehensible reason why you kill unique selling points and
punish all OOo-Users who love exactly such useful differences between OOo and
MS-Products.

I never demand the same behavior as Powerpoint, on the contrary I try to save
useful and already existing OOo features!

No need to get emotional - I am just telling you how it is.
I did not say that it was removed because PPT does not have it - please read my
posting accurate. I just mentioned PPT because it is the majority argument for
the most users when they complain about something.
Software-Development means that things change - you are not supposed to like
everything. This is not a defect because it was designed that way. Sorry if you
do not like it.

I too do not like that the names are dropped. You might drop the "slide 1",
"slide 2" .. texts, but if I bother to name the slides, I like to see those
names. The same problem is in Draw, where you have dropped the names too.

Thanks to Regina, exactly that's the point.

@wg: I saw how it is - in fact that was the cause of this issue.

Yes, software-development means that things changes but things should get better
and easier not worse - and good things should survive.

Thanks for "you are not supposed to like everything".
Maybe I misunderstood the statement at the Renaissance homepage:

"The goal statement
... to know and to understand our users as they are, and to help them accomplish
what they want to, by providing efficient access to valuable functionality
through a desirable User Interface."

Most of my slides has meaningful names. This UI regression is on of the main reasons I am still using OOo 3.2.

Slide names are important to construct custom slide shows.
