Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 11544
Request for a Find File feature
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
I feel there is a need for a Find File feature in OpenOffice.org. The OpenOffice.org file format is a compressed format and as such, cannot be searched using the standard Find File in Windows. That means that one day when you say; "I know I wrote the letter to such and such" and then want to search for the documents which include their name in the actual contents of the OO files, you won't be able to. I've raised this as a Writer issues but I believe it should be a generic feature available across all modules where it makes sense. I floated this issue on discuss@openoffice.org and a number of others felt it was worth considering. Kelvin
Perhaps the development team should consider implementing this feature using a macro instead of implementing it in the main library, binaries & executables. Having a macro will give us a sample of how to code them, & allow us to customize OOo. Please, please, please try to reduce the bloat. It takes a long time to load up OOo on my Pentium. Please.
A external solution is also acceptable ( or even better )
Hi *, we already considered such a find file extension for Windows and a specification already exists, too. It is planned to implement this feature within the OO 2.0 time frame. We are able to implement this feature without all the heavy OO libraries. We did this already for the OO property sheets on Windows (right click a file in the Windows Explorer and select "Properties"). Feel free to assign this bug to me. Best Regards, Tino

HI->TRA: Ok, it's yours now.

If it is possible for Find in Files to support the MS Word .doc format that would be great too; due to interoperability with my Palm (via Documents To Go) I have to keep using the .doc format for automatic syncing to work.
