Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 11249
Importing old mailarchive into xxx@cs.openoffice.org?
Last modified: 2003-03-27 16:04:55 UTC
Hi, we have two mailing lists outside of openoffice.org. Is it possible to import their archives to new mailinglists we created on cs.openoffice.org? If so, how should I proceed?
accepting and relaying this to support Support, is this possible? thanks louis
Pavel - Some more information would be nice here. It should help us to better respond. What type of mailing list system are these messages coming from (listserv, l-soft, mojo, listproc, etc)? How many messages are there in each list? Is someone familiar with those mailing lists knowledgeable on how to export the mails from them? If so, who would that be? What is the timeframe for getting the mails imported?
The mailsystem on sf.net is mailman. We will provide one file with every message in mbox format. There are about 100 messages in users list and 1000 in dev list.
Update: Opened internal issue to query about importing mbox formatted maillists. Action plan: follow up on internal issue. timeframe: update by 02/12/03.
update: It seems we have some scripts which will accomplish an import of mbox formatted files. The first engineer I queried provided this information and passed the issue over to another engineer who has done this work. I still need to hear from the second engineer. Are the mbox files available now for us to review? action plan: pursue the issue with the engineer to find out what we need to do to import the lists. timeframe: update by 02/19/03.
I have asked the original site to provide it to me. I will inform you as soon as I get their response.
OK, I got it - I have placed it at http://www.janik.cz/tmp/oo-cs-l10n.mbox.bz2 It should go before every e-mail to dev@cs.openoffice.org. Thank you.
I thought there were two lists you wanted imported? Are they both in the archive? Or are you still working on getting the other one?
There are two lists - other is users, but we do not want to move it yet. Web pages on cs.openoffice.org should be the first now.
Update: this is being reviewed by an engineer. timeframe: update by 02/27/03.
Update: Referred the engineer responsible for this to the file provided above. Action plan: Query the engineer on the timeframe for this work. timeframe: update by 03/06/03.
I have just received the archive of users conference which should go to users@cs.openoffice.org before every e-mail. I will provide it via e-mail, because there are many different e-mail addresses there... Mail me to pjanik@openoffice.org or tell me the name of the support person to mail that archive to.
Pavel - You can email it to me (bnoble@openoffice.org).
E-mail is on the way.
Update: Received the email and passed it along to the engineer. Action Plan: follow up with engineer. timeframe: update by 03/14/03.
Pavel - are you looking for our mailing list manager to provide access to these messages? or do you simply want to browse these messages via the web interface in sourcecast mail archives on openoffice.org?
Yes, we want to prepend old mail archives to the new lists so no messages get lost.
Ok, I just want to let you know that even though we can place these messages prior to the other messages in the list, they will most likely not be able to be adminstered by the mailing list manager (ezmlm) directives. Timeframe: Update by 03/21/03.
The detail of how to insert the external mailing lists have been worked out and are in the queue to be implemented. Should be in place soon. timeframe: update by 03/27/03.
The messages are in place.
Thank you very much!
