Description johngross 2003-02-03 22:22:50 UTC
In Mandrake Linux 9.0:

A text box using 10% gray font color and rotated text can be saved to MS Word
97/2000/XP format but when reopened the font rotation is lost and the font color
is changed to white. The font color change still occurs with 10% gray color and
NO ROTATION. Likewise, a rotated font w/o color change will not be rotated upon
ropening.

To reproduce:

1. Depress "Show Draw Functions" button on vertical left-hand tool bar, and
select the "Text" option.
2. Drag a rectangular text box in the middle of page big enough to work in.
3. Type the word "Draft" in the box, change font color to 10% gray (THIS COLOR
IS IMPORTANT) from the dropdown list, and set font size to something bigger
like 40 (easy to work with).
4. Click outside the box and the box outline should disappear. Position mouse
pointer over box and left click. The box anchor symbol should appear as well as
the resize handles.
5. Right-click the anchor, select "Position and Size..."
6. Select "Rotate" tab and use rotate radio buttons to rotate text 45 degrees
counter-clockwise (lower left to upper right).
7. Click outside the box and you should have the word "Draft", rotated 45
degrees with font color "10% gray". As if you were making a background...
8. Save file in MS Word 97/2000/XP format then close document.
9. Reload the document and the text box should appear blank, HOWEVER the box is
still there!
10. Position mouse pointer over where the box should be and you'll see the
pointer change to indicate the box is present. Double-click the box and the
cursor should be positioned in front of the word "Draft" which is currently
invisible because the font color has been CHANGED TO WHITE! (which is my
background color)
11. If you work at it, you can highlight the word, then right-click on it,
select "Character...". You should now be able to see that the font color has
been changed to "White" AND the text rotation has been lost.

Problem occurs in both OO1.0.1 and 1.0.2.

Regards,
John G.

ES->MRU: please evaluate. Feel free to P2 if real data loss.

John, thank you for using and supporting OOo.

For future reference, one problem per issue.

A. Font color

Resolved in 1.1 Beta 2. Font color retained.

B. Rotation

I don't know if we support exporting rotating text to Word
    format.

OOo doesn't support text rotation in table cells.

PM->MRU: Does OOo support exporting rotated text to Word?
Comment 5 michael.ruess 2003-06-19 10:34:56 UTC
Font color is fixed, that's right.
But rotation won't be fixable, because Word does not offer this
feature for text boxes. So there's no way for OOo to save this in Word
format!

Closed. Fixable thing is fixed in available version.
