Hi,

I would like to put groups onto a separate layer to make my document easier to
work with - an example is a group of text objects with a bitmap. After I insert
a new layer the program won't allow me to put these onto the new layer. 

Would you be able to change the program to do the following:

1. Allow me to put groups onto a new layer
2. Add a "move to layer" option to the right-click menu for an object
3. Change the "visible" option in layer preferences to "active" so that objects
on the layer cannot be selected

Please give a step by step description of what you do. Putting groups onto
layers works without problems here. You must have the layer selected to put
things onto it.
Point 2 would be an enhancement.
Point 3 is already there: please use the "locked" option in the layer settings.
