In the last bit of the installation of OpenOffice 3.2 it 'hands' on the error 
code 1935, it rolls back and now I can't run the previous version. Also I can't 
uninstall the previous verion because it is not in the programs/uninstall list 
anymore.

Please advise....

I remember that I've read about that problem and repairing the .NET environment
solves the problem.
