1. openoffice create a new spread sheet. In cell A1 enter 01/16/2003, save the
spread sheet as type Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP .xls.
2. Use excel (I used excel 97 on WIN2K), open the spreadsheet, the date will be
   01/17/03 in cell A1
3. In excel cell A2 add text 01/16/2003 and save the spreadsheet.
4. Back in open office open the spreadsheet, cell A2 will have 01/15/03.

I have tried adjusting the date formats for the cells, no success.

Thanks.
