Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 103904
Need keyboard shortcut for no-width no break character
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:33:26 UTC
CTL language such as Thai usually need to insert the “no-width no break” mark to manually disable automatic word-break. But this feature doesn't have keyboard shortcut yet so users are required to use the menu Insert > Formatting Mark > No-width no break. It's hard to find a good candidate for the shortcut but I think ctrl+space may be a possible choice.
@samphan: Reassigning to you as Thai Project Owner. The problem is: We are running out of Default shortcuts now. And out of resources too! Generally, when a user needs a shortcut for a function which doesn't has one, the way over "Tools - Customize" is the best. No need to waste developer time in that case. Only if it is proven that the missing shortcut should be a "must" for a *majority* of users in the defined community, then it might be worth to implement it. In the current case please: - Find out if and confirm that a shortcut for no-width no break is needed as Default in your community. - Find out which other languages might need this as default. - Find a developer in your community who can submit a patch for all concerned languages. Then we will take care about implementing the patch. Some hints about possible shortcuts... Ctrl+Space cannot be defined by default because it conflicts with the system Language Bar on the MAC. Ctrl+Shift+Space is already affected to non-breaking space and shouldn't be changed.
"Then we will take care about implementing the patch." When the patch is ready, please reassign the issue to MBA. Thank you!
A new idea: since "no-width optional break" is Ctrl+/ Why doesn't "no-width no break" be the opposite, Ctrl+* But no, the combination is used :- Ctrl+* (only on number pad) -> Run macro field Which we cannot change, right? But how about Alt+* ? It is not available as a choice for keyboard shortcuts. Is it possible to enable such combinations which will bring-in a host of new opportunities.
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
