Description Dotan Cohen 2009-05-25 07:46:38 UTC
When creating new databases with Base, one of the steps is to "register the
database in OpenOffice.org". To the casual end user, this sounds like creating
an association between the database files and some website. It has been
suggested that the text be changed to:

"Register this database as data source for other OpenOffice.org modules?"

The new text has these advantages:
1) It is clear that the data is not being shared online.
2) It explains to the user what the registration is for.
3) It explains to the user how he can take advantage of the registration.

Did you find this somewhere in the Help? Then I will change that text accordingly.
Please state where you did find the text

Thank you, Ufi. The text can be found by opening File -> New -> Database in any
OOo component, then walking through the wizard.

@ufi - I believe you are asking where he found the suggested text, yes?

It was not found in the help files nor in the system at all - it is a suggestion
for rewording the string displayed in the wizard. The actual suggested text was
just something thought up by some guy on the OO.o users mailing list.

Regarding the reporters belief that the current wording is too spartan and not
descriptive enough for the casual Base user I would agree.

As for the suggested replacement wording, that really would need to be looked at
by others. (I was the guy on the mailing list.)
