After leaving the design more for a form, I can enter data but the button to go
back into design mode is disabled. I also haven't found a menu or anything to
edit the form further.

If this function exists, it's way too hard to find.

I don't get you.
I don't known what you mean with  "the button to go back into design mode is
disabled"

Can you give us some more information what you are doing?

Checked with XP, Ooo3.2 and DEV320m_72

Can not reproduce the problem.
