Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 101277
WW8: widehat not correctly converted to Equation
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:54:45 UTC
(the version says 300m15 (ubuntu), but I cannot locate that in the list) Formulas containing the "widehat" symbol does not work when saving files in .doc and opening in Word 2003 and when opening .doc files containing widehat from documents created in Word 2003 (saved in .doc)
Created attachment 61730 [details] The original file with an equation with widehat in it
Created attachment 61731 [details] The same file exported from OO to .doc format. Try this in Word 2003 and see.
I reproduce the problem with OOo 3.1 RC1 but I can't verify with MS-Word 2003, only MS WordViewer 2003 under Wine in Ubuntu 8.04. For me there is a problem not only with widehat but with parenthesis too. I tried changing default font from Times New Roman to DejaVu ; same defect.
What do you mean by "does not work in MS Word"? - it cannot be activated / double-clicked? - or it is displayed incorrectly (what exactly)? - or MS Word is not able to even open the document?
If it is "it cannot be activated / double-clicked" it would be a duplicate of issue 99838.
It can be activated/edited! But "widehat" is not shown, only the normal "hat". The attached screen shot is from OpenOffice. Over the "V" in "Var" there is an empty rectangle. This is probably residues from the misinterpreted "widehat" symbol. The question marks comes from big parentheses. A similar problem occurs when opening a .doc file exported from OO on Word 2003, but I do not have easy access to Word, so I cannot submit a screen shot at the moment.
Created attachment 61868 [details] Equation in a .doc file created by Word 2003 showing errorneus display of "wide hat" and "big parenthesis"
How come this is still unconfirmed, it is quite easy to test.
Cannot reproduce the problem with official build of OOo 3.1.1 on ubuntu 9.04. The widehat is correctly shown when saving to doc format and reoppening in Writer.
Closed.
Sorry, but you did not test it correctly. What you need to do to test this is to save in .doc-file and open in MS-Word!. Then edit the equation in MS-Word, do some change, save in .doc and reopen in Writer. Now you can tell wether it works or not.
OK, Isee, this was not clear in the first description. Also, the "Convert OO Math to MS Equation" option has to be enabled for this. MRU->TL: export the attached odt to Ms Word (with Object conversion enabled) and open in MS Word. There you see that the widehat is now across the whole formula. Now edit and save the document and open in Writer -> the widehat is lost (activate the object for this).
