Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 100689
Use of SMP/SMT/Multithreading
Last modified: 2014-03-03 13:21:53 UTC
All openoffice applications use only one core of the processor; though office work does not require that much of processing, but at certain cases (for instance doing lengthy scientific calculations in spreadsheets and making detailed and complex drawings in draw, or importing the same drawing to writer) time can get to more than an hour; this time can be reduced to half using all the 2 cores or 1/4th using 4 cores in quad core processors. The save times should also be dramatically improving on doing so. Also a proper GUI for the estimated time left and the percentage of processing completed is requested to the addition so at least windows doesn't give it a tag 'not responding'.
IF this issue is resolved, and with a few addition of small features and major performance optimisations, OOo will actually be the only office suit to work in high performance systems optimised for scientific calculations, like the large systems with NVIDIA tesla or ATI FireStream.
This could be a breakthrough feature for OOo 4
de-Logics, please learn how qa and issue tracking works, before playing around with the fields here. Removing CC.
Ok... But this issue seems cold for quiet a lot of time.
TM->requirements: please have a look, thanks !
You devs seen this 'graphite' thing in GCC? Parallelization might not require effort after all. It'll make sense to modify OOo code to compile with graphite and let it do the parallelization.
Created attachment 81753 [details] I need multithreading Hi! I need multithreading!!! For opening this big spreadsheets. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5BI-Z5zydxhTFBlbi1hSGdmbk0/edit?usp=sharing So, I think openoffice and libreoffice are need multithreading
