Hey guys (again),

Well, I've read some reviews, and heard some comments about how long it takes
Openoffice to Load and how fast it is after it loads. . . . :-). Well, I personally think its
not so much a speed problem, but a visual problem.

My suggestion to make it seem faster would be to add a Progress Bar at the Splash
Screen, much the way the Gimp, Corel Draw and PageMaker) do. It gives a ¨I'm
thinking¨ look to the start of the program, making it look at lot nicer as well.

Also, the Splash Screen can be stamped by the Mouse during the loading process
(it does in my RedHat Linux with KDE Workstation). I find that aestheticly anoying as
hell. It makes it seem like the whole program is poorly coded (and I'm absolutely
sure its not!!!!). But its one of those details that just makes a difference. . . . .

Great job!
Fabio.

just my 2 cents: don't know if a progress bar is that good (besides
that it's difficult to know what percentage is already done), but
something like "doint this currently", "doing that currently" (similar
to for instance Netscape 4.5x or some graphics programs) perhaps could
not hurt ...

My main issue with the splash screen is that it's a "stay-on-top"
window (at least on Linux/KDE), so I cannot continue working, or
reading the screen contents etc, until OO is fully loaded. It would
be much less annoying if I could click on another window and
continue working until the OO window appears.

The problem that the splash screen it always on top is issue 4133.
Comment 5 fa 2003-07-25 01:41:27 UTC
Closing as fixed because OOo 1.1 has a progress bar on the splash screen. If you feel
this has not been resolved satisfactorily, please re-open this issue with your
comments.
