Historia e OpenOffice.org

OpenOffice.org rrugëtimin e saj e ka filluar nga pakoja me emrin StarOffice, e krijuar nga kompania gjermane StarDivision. Në prill të vitit 1999, Sun Microsystem e bleu kompaninë StarDivision dhe së bashku me të edhe StarOffice.
Në korrik të vitit 2000, Sun vendosi që kodin burimor të programit ta bëjë publik dhe ta sponzorizojë zhvillimin e produktit si një program për zyrë me kod të hapur. U krijua projekti dhe Web faqja me emrin OpenOffice.org, për të qenë shtëpia e këtij produkti dhe e atyre që punonin në të. Që nga ajo kohë, njerëzit nga e gjithë bota kanë përdorë dhe përmirësuar OpenOffice.org.
Sun ende vazhdon ta shes dhe përmirësojë StarOffice pakon softuerike.

Verzioni i fundit i StarOffice është 8.0, i cili tash bazohet në kodin e OpenOffice.org.

Apache OpenOffice is an effort undergoing incubation at The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Apache Incubator. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.
