Joining OpenOffice.org is purely optional. You do not have to join the project to use the product and joining the project is not the same as registering the product. You do not have to register the product. You can enjoy it freely.

But there are some real advantages to joining the project! Most important: It's an interesting group working on something that is making a real difference to millions of people. You do not have to be able to code to help out. You can help with artwork, with writing, with testing, with marketing, with translation, with support--with just about anything you like.
