Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4798
PDF capability (index, bookmarks, encryption, links,...)
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
Indexed PDF creation from a writer document and its table of content as index would be useful.
Reassigned to Christian.
Reassiged to Bettina.
this bug is related to issue 10199 (Include pdfmark support in OO.o)
This issue (as the first one about PDF wishes and many votes) includes also the content of issue 10199 and 9954, both handling the PDF capability (I changed the summary accordingly). PDFmark provides the capability for PDF files to contain enhanced features such as indexes, hyper-text links, notes, bookmarks etc. If OO.o could have the necessary support for pdfmarks, then it would be possible to create maintainable PDF's with advanced features. Editing, changing and removing of PDFmark information like title, author, created by, produced by, etc.. And support of PDF tags.

Just not to loose good ideas I want to paste some from the closed Issues: * Encryption: - Encrypt a PDF document with a user or master password (or both) - Edit permission settings (e.g., printing or text extraction not allowed) * PDF Bookmarks: - OO outline information (TOC), OO Bookmarks, etc. * PDF links: - inside a PDF document (e.g. footnote marks <-> footnote like in OOo and nor only footnote marks -> footnote like M$ :-) - to URLs. So * PDF pagelabels: With this feature each page can have a string as label instead of its page number. Roman letter page numbers or restarting the pagenumber with 1 inside a document could be exported to PDF this way. A lot of Documents restart their page numbers with 1 several pages inside the document (after Title, TOC, ..). Therefore the pagenumber shown by acrobat differs from the pagenumber printed on the pages and used for cross references. This is can be very annoying. PDF pagelabels could be a cure for that. * comments in PDF files

I just thought that you might be interested in ExtendedPDF, a macro hosted on OOoMacros (http://www.ooomacros.org/files.php? type=macro#ExtendedPDF). Currently, it adds bookmarks based on headings, some meta information, and has initial support for hyperlinks. I thought you might be able to simply add this macro (perhaps as an add-in?) to the main distribution.
The URL in my earlier comments (2003-12-02 02:47 PST) is broken. The whole thing should be in one line. Alternatively, go to www.ooomacros. org and follow the 'Macros' link

The ExtendedPDF macro is a bit of a cludge, especially on Windows. For me the creation of Bookmarks is an important feature for producing "online" documentation in PDF format using OOo Writer. The quality of the current (1.1.2) PDF export is exceptional, but it lacks even basic features to control the PDF output. Given that my document contains a TOC, I would have hoped that I could just tick a box and get a bookmark set generated from it.
remember: This issue is duplicate of issue 20327 which in turn is already fixed. You can download one of the developer snapshots and test yourself: The feature is already implemented. The PDF export suppors both hyperlinks as well as an index (TOC). Feel free to reuse your votes.
