Make sure a huge file is in your directory (700 Mb .avi did the trick for me).
Press ctrl-o (or select open from the file-menu) and select an item in the list
with your mouse and use the keyboard arrows to navigate through the list. As
soon as you select the huge file, OOo causes high harddisk i/o (several Mb/s)
and doesn't respond to anything anymore.

Couldn't reproduce with 300MB files and ooo1.1beta1 on rh8.
Can you try with a newer build?  If it's still happening,
please file a new issue.

This task is fixed or worked in OOo 1.1 beta2.
