Version information should be included in executables.  This aids crash
capturing software to associate crashes by version as well as signature.  It
also tells useful information.  Commonly included data are:
Company: OpenOffice.org
Product: OpenOffice
Version: 1.1.643
Copyright: Copyright Â© 2002 OpenOffice.org

For an example of what I mean, do the following:
1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Navigate to your Windows folder.
3. Right-click explorer.exe > Properties.
4. Click the version tab.

Martin, 

we don't seem to have the version number in the about box. 
I assume you know better to whom to assign this, in case we 
want to include that.
