I am running Red Hat 7.3 with Ximian updates, and a Ximian install of OpenOffice
1.0. I also have
When I launch swriter from the command line, it flashes on the screen, then
disappears.
There is no core file, no errors to stderr (displayed on the xterm), no messages
to /var/log/message, nor can I find any log files in the OpenOffice directory.

I used to run the last OpenOffice beta, when I ran Red Hat v7.2, with no problems.

You're using gnome, right?
gnome-session probably kills OO.o before it is started.
If you can run simpress, then have a look at issue 4494
Since I strongly believe that this is the case I'll set this one to be
a dublicate of issue 4494.
It this didn't solve your problem please reopen this issue (and give
more detailed information)

PS: Don't use 'code' if you can't tell the developers where they can
find the part of source-code that causes the defect.
Don't use 'writer' if the bug or your issue applies to other
components as well.

closing.
As I said before if issue 4494 doesn't match your problem reopen this
one and give more information on your configuration.
