Description ousia 2004-06-14 15:40:09 UTC
Hi there,

I have downloaded a the Kerkis font for X11 (http://iris.math.aegean.gr/kerkis/)
and I have tried to use it to write a presentation using it.

The text is displayed right on screen, but it is wrong embedded when it comes to
pdf generation. In the attachment you have the original presentation (I don't
attach the pdf file, since it is rather big (1Mb)).

The bug should be in the OOo side, since StarOffice 7 for Linux embeds Kerkis right.

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

I have also discovered that OOo 1.1.1 has problems embedding the Kerkis font,
since when generating it embeds the fonts twice if Westeuropean an Greek
alphabets are used, although the font is only one (see attached grktxt.sxw).

Just in case it helps.

I have downloaded version 1.9.74 for Linux and I have realized that the PDF
export option still has problems with Kerkis and it is not able to partially
embed fonts (that makes the PDF document almost 50 times bigger).

ESP Ghostscript 7.07 seems not to have problems with Kerkis and with partial
font embedding (again, just in case it could help).

partial downloading (subsetting) of type1 fonts is not a feature we will have in
2.0; the reason is that we do not have code that could do this.

Thanks for your answer.

I wish I could provide the code for subsetting type1 fonts, but I'm afraid I
cannot code.

Is there any way that I can help? I mean, what is required here: an example on
how to do it or the code for it? I know that code would be better ;-), but I
guess that iText (http://www.lowagie.com/iText/) provides an explanation on how
to do it.

I think this could help (and sorry if I'm saying nonsense),

new title, we really want type 1 font subsetting. hdu has some plans for that.
